Kansui

Sprinkling of water. It is necessary to give water to bonsai trees in order for them to remain alive in a pot. Whether a bonsai is in good or bad condition is determined by the way trees get sprinkling water, which is one of the fundamental techniques for growing bonsai trees. It is also called mizukake (water splashing), mizukure (water giving) and mizuyari (watering). Water is sprayed on the dried soil in a pot to sufficiently penetrate it. It replenishes water that is vital to bonsai and also discharges unclean air filling the soil and provides it with fresh air. Excessive water spoils roots while its shortage weakens the trees and blights branches. It is important to give an appropriate amount of water based on types of trees and the size of a pot.
