Araki
It stands for new wood in Japanese but means that trees are collected in the mountains and temporarily planted or plants cultivated in a field and still remain untouched as material. Araki is also written gemboku to signify raw wood. Araki is a tree to be used to grow a trunk and a branch. It is a natural tree retaining its magnificent form and showing long years of existence, but cannot be used for bonsai as is. Its root is in ruin as a result of having been taken from the mountains. Full care should be given for it to take root, and useless branches and trunks must be refitted. A considerable time is said necessary to gradually shape it and perfect it as bonsai.
