Tsugiho

A tsugiho scion to be grafted is called hogi or tsugiho. Generally, it refers to a branch just sliced off a mother tree. However, in the case of yobitsugi, the term hogi is used even when a trunk or branch is not separated from the mother tree. A new bud that comes out of the mother tree in the spring keeps growing until autumn and makes the branch good and strong. It is necessary to choose whittled openings that fit each other to match the thickness of a stock.
