Sekkasho

When a part of plants is fasciated and becomes flattened, or changes to look like a cockscomb or is in a state of ”removing dust,” it is described as being in sekka or fossilization. Particularly, plants having properties to be fossilized in their natural condition are referred to as being in sekkasho (fossilization). This is seen in trees and plants and used in ikebana flower arrangements and potted bonsai. It might be mistaken for yatsubusa (a Japanese term for dwarf variety) but it is different.
