Hashiri-ne

Literally, a running root. It refers to a root that grows much longer in soil than other roots. It is also called ”abare-ne” (ramp root). When a bonsai tree is drawn out of a pot, a long, thick and distinguished root is found among its fine roots. Then, it is ”hashiri-ne.” It is better to trim down or take away such a root at the time of transplantation because branches and leaves of a bonsai tree grow in a balanced manner only under even roots.
