Oikomi

A method of trimming that is aimed at cutting back close to a bud in futokoro root parts and thereby moving the next bud. Oikomi is done to renew the tip of a branch as it thickens over the years whereas it should be maintained thin. The time of oikomi differs according to the kind of trees but it is better for them to have it when they are active. The secret of maintaining the form of the branches is to protect the bud of futokoro so that oikomi can be done at any time.
