Yobitsugi

A type of grafting. It refers to a grafting method whereby a tree with roots is to be grafted into a stock tree. This method is applied to species whose cultivation in pots is difficult. A ”tocho-shi” branch of the same tree or a nursery tree with roots of the same species may be used as graft. In both cases, the plants will not die due to nutrient elements at the graft and stock trees. The best season for ”yobitsugi” grafting is from March through May. Grafting at an early stage will help grow the plant by fall. At the same time, the graft and stock trees can coalesce with each other through an early proliferation of wound callus.
