Yamadori

Literally, a collection from mountains. The term means collecting wild trees growing in the fields and mountains, and planting them into containers or farm fields. It also refers to the plants collected from the wild. ''Yamadori'' trees are usually strong and they can easy be planted into pots or farm fields as long as the timing of collection from the wild is appropriate. But if the tree collected from the wild is an aged one, considerable care must be taken. But the number of materials in mountains and natural fields that are suitable for bonsai cultivation has recently sharply declined. In addition, growers have come to refrain from the ''yamadori'' collection of plants under the concept of environmental protection.
