Futokoro

Literally, the bosom. It refers to root parts of tree branches that are close to tree trunks. The value goes up for a bonsai tree whose ''futokoro'' is branchy. But, as those parts are usually unsunny and poorly ventilated, branches and buds are slow to grow there. If ''futeiga'' indefinite buds come out from those parts, growers need to do pruning or wiring work, secure sufficient sunlight, and carefully nurture them.
